BIO
Dr. Matata Ponyo Mapon is a Professor of Economics at the Université Protestante au Congo, where he has taught since 2019. Matata Ponyo has published numerous books on monetary policy, political economy, and Governance. He is invited to present his views and research to the prominent scientific and professional institutions.
From May 9th 2012 until November 16th 2016, Matata Ponyo served as the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a position that required confirmation by the DRC parliament. He has also served as Minister of Finance (2010-2012), Manager of the Central Coordination Office (BCECO, 2003-2010), advisor in the cabinet of the DRC Minister of Finance (2001-2003), and central banker in the Research Department (1988-2000).
Matata Ponyo received his BSc and MSc in economics from the Université de Kinshasa, and his PhD in economics from the Université Protestante au Congo in February 2018.
